Immo Stein was born in Salzburg, Austria in 1939.
His adventurous spirit brought him to Australia in 1961, where he eventually found his way to the opal fields in far north of South Australia and developed a passion for Australia’s National Gemstone, and met his wife, Louise. They lived underground to escape the heat.
In 1985 they moved to the beautiful Sunshine Coast with their three children and continued their passion for the stone in the form of Opals Down Under on the Bruce Hwy., near the Caloundra turnoff, which they still own.
Immo discovered his artistic ability at the ripe old age of 62, and he and Louise have been active members of the Buderim Craft Cottage ever since!
He generally prefers to work with oils, but has used pastels extensively.
